Bruce’s grandfather, who fought under the name of “Johnny Buff,” was both the bantamweight and flyweight champion of the world back in the roaring twenties. This is a time when champs had to dodge gangster’s bullets as much as their opponent’s punches.
His brother is Michael Buffer, the silver-tongued guy who has announced wrestling, boxing and mixed martial arts bouts since before fights were on Pay-Per-View. Michael’s catch phrase, “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble,” is probably the best-known phrase ever associated with sports.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma native—who grew up in Philadelphia, Dallas and Malibu—is the son of a U.S. Marine drill instructor (bet his bed was made every day).
