We Explore the Reasons Why Fighters Are Such Mental Badasses
They are wired differently. Plain and simple.
While preparing for a fight, they've got the focus of a red-tailed hawk, circling its prey. During a fight, they lock out pain like it doesn't exist. And when retirement rolls around, the thought of the spotlight turning off forever hits harder than a runaway freight train on a 10-percent descent.
Fighters are, for sure, a different breed, which is why we're about to explore the corridors of their mind. The man who is going to take us on this journey through the mental realm of fighting is Thomas Nardi, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist who practices in New York.
MENTALLY, WHAT TYPE OF PERSON FIGHTS?
It takes a person who has an iron will. Their determination, competitive edge and discipline are enormous. The average person cannot comprehend the intensity and discipline involved to compete at that elite level.
HOW DOES A FIGHTER REACH THAT?
They develop that mind power as they go along. My view is that it is innate. They have the ability, and it comes out. It unfolds and emerges because it has always been there.
A FIGHTER’S PERSONALITY
They have a strong competitive quality. They plan to win, and they bring that mentality to other aspects of their lives. If they do something, they do it all the way. It’s like an addiction in a positive way. They like the competition, adrenaline and winning.
