
The Depth of Women’s MMA Will Increase if the Pay Equaled that of the Men — Liz Carmouche
They dream. Just like the men.
They want to test their skills against elite fighters. To see how good they are. To see how they’ve grown. To see where they can improve.
They put their hearts and souls into each and every training session and into each and every fight. Just like the men.
But how long will the dreams last for female mixed martial artists? Officials have said there isn’t enough depth to establish divisions. To find out her thoughts, we went to current Strikeforce contender Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche. We wasted no time attacking the subject.
Q Do you think the UFC will accommodate the female divisions?
A I am not sure. If not, fighting in Strikeforce certainly was a dream come true.
When you dream at night and you’re like, ‘Yeah I’d also like to go to the moon,’ you don’t really think it’s going to happen. Of course, it would be the best circumstances if it did. Therefore, for me, when fighting in Strikeforce came true, I was just amazed.
So, at this point, if for any reason Strikeforce and the UFC decide they’re not going to implement the women’s division into the UFC, I’d be happy for the time I have fought. I fulfilled a dream, and I experienced just a little bit of what that means. Still, I’d love to continue on and keep fighting.
Q UFC officials have said there isn’t enough depth in the women’s divisions. What are your thoughts?
A: The girls are out there. You just have to look for them.
