"Special Online-Only Bonus"
Urijah Faber’s UFC debut at 135 was highly anticipated and produced a pre-event nail-biter for me. I have been following him since the WEC, and I feel that 135 and the UFC is where he belongs. He looks very comfortable at this weight. In Round 3, it was his technique and his unbelievable cardio that sealed the win. Wineland came out strong the first round and caught Urijah on some takedowns…in rounds 2 and 3 is when he began to hesitate. Started to second guess what he wanted to do and Urijah took advantage of that with some quick single-leg transitions. They were so quick I needed to see them on replay just to make sure I didn’t blink!
Jones vs Shogun – I don’t know why it went to the 3rd round, but if that was part of Jones’ game plan…more power to him because it worked. I didn’t see Rua coming back after the first round. So the spinning back elbow didn’t work the first time…the second one, following an upkick settled the score at the end.
Miller vs Shalorus - I don’t know Shalorus. I don’t know his style, but I have never really seen too many fighters whose heads follow their right along with their body. It left him open for a follow-up strike to the head or even the body every time. If Miller had taken that and ran with it, the round may have ended earlier.
Anyway, I missed the Crocop vs Shaub fight…a little bummed about that. Again, the veteran against the “new kid”. From what I heard and read, Crocop just wasn’t there.
To end this, I am looking forward to UFC 129 and 130. Of course, my other favorite is GSP. Edgar vs Maynard…should be another exciting night!
